Term Definition
GASSING Evolution of gas by one more of the plates in a cell. Gassing may result from electrolysis of water into hydrogen and oxygen within a cell during charging (normally near the end of a charge), from overcharging, or from local action.
GELLED ELECTROLYTE Electrolyte that has been immobilised by the addition of a gelling agent.
GELLED ELECTROLYTE CELL A cell, usually a lead-acid or a valve-regulated sealed lead-acid type, which utilises gelled electrolyte. Also see valve-regulated sealed lead-acid cell.
GRAVITY DROP The change in SG (Specific Gravity) of the electrolyte for a lead-acid cell upon discharge of the cell.
GROUND LEAKAGE The leakage of current from the circuit to the ground. The probable consequence is low battery capacity during operation.
